"This Regiment was organized at Camp Dennison, Ohio, in June, 1861, to serve three years. The original members (except veterans) were mustered out June 21, 1864, by reason of expiration of term of service, and the veterans and recruits, together with the veterans and recruits of the Eight Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry, were consolidated and designated the Fourth Battalion Ohio Infantry. This organization was formed, as stated, June 26, 1864, and was mustered out July 12, 1865, in accordance with orders from the War Department."[2]

The 4th Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry was raised in 1861 to respond to Lincoln’s call for 75,000 men to fight against the rebellion. Company C was among the 4th Regiment of Ohio voluteers and was raised mostly from residents of Delaware County, Ohio. Going by the nickname the "Delaware Guards," this website will seek to provide information on the unit’s history, the community they lived in, and the lives of the soldiers that fought among its ranks.
